Thorn EX-1  /  Electric Enduro  /  MY2027

The trail
goes quiet

One motor. One gear. No exhaust note to hide behind. The EX-1 puts 118 Nm on the ground from a standstill and weighs less than the four-stroke it replaces — so the only thing you hear on the climb is the ground giving way.

01  —  The machine

Built around
the battery,
not despite it

We started with a 21 kg pack and drew a chassis around it. The mass sits low and central where a fuel tank never could, which is why a 96 kg bike feels like an 80 kg one the moment it leans.

Everything above the swingarm pivot is either structure or serviceable in under ten minutes with the tool roll that ships in the tail.

03  —  Capability

Seven things
it does
differently

None of these are firsts on their own. Putting all seven on one 96 kg chassis, in a bike you can ride to the trailhead and back, is the part nobody had done.

01

Swappable battery

Two latches, no tools, one pack out and another in. A depleted EX-1 becomes a fresh one in the time it takes to drink something.

40 s · 21 kg
02

Instant torque

All 118 Nm available at zero rpm, metered by the throttle map rather than by a clutch hand and a flywheel.

0–30 km/h in 1.6 s
03

Near-silent

52 dB(A) at 30 km/h — quiet enough for land access that closed to combustion bikes a decade ago.

Belt drive · no exhaust
04

Low maintenance

No oil, no filters, no valve shims, no chain to adjust after every wet lap. Service is a belt tension check and a firmware pull.

6 000 km intervals
05

Sealed storage

Six litres of dry, lockable volume where the airbox used to live. Tube, tool roll, jacket — on the bike, not on your back.

6 L · IP65
06

Configurable

Power delivery, regen strength and traction slip are three separate dials on the bar switch. Change them mid-climb, gloves on.

5 modes · 3 axes
07

Trail-ready

320 mm of front travel, 355 mm of clearance, and a pack rated to sit in a river crossing without an argument.

IP67 · 21″/18″

04  —  Ride modes

Five bikes,
one chassis

Each mode rewrites the torque curve, the regen ramp and the traction threshold together. Switch on the move; the pack does not care.
